Our friends at Wellington Zinefest have created this awesome ZINE 101 online course to encourage people to get involved in zine making. Check it out here , especially the course by Kathleen Winter about political zines . There is also a " Newbies Market " where new and emerging zine makers can show off their works. It runs on Sunday, 19 July, 12-4pm at the Vic Uni School of Design Innovation, 139 Vivian St.

This year's Zinefest is happening this coming weekend! It's a two-day event and the Freedom Shop will be there on Sunday, 17 November, 11am to 4pm.  We'll have some new zines on the West Sahara, the situation in Rojava and a Scottish anarchist's take on Brexit, as well as new postcards and lots of other stuff. While on-going discontented rumbles about the crumbling environment, inequality, lack of housing, colonisation and other issues have been growing louder for some time, this year has seen people taking to the streets in greater numbers than for many years. The Freedom Shop will be there with new & old zines, including: writings by Behrouz Boochani, one of the people detained on Manus for 6 years an update on Bougainville the reality of what can happen when you have interactions with the police writings by bell hooks the concentration camps in the us refugees are welcome postcards                             and many more... The market is upstairs at Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba Street. There are a flight of stairs stairs and a small, single person lift.

The Freedom Shop will be there with a collection of new and old zines, including 'Letters from Lockdown' by PAPA, 'Prison Abolition' by Freedom Shop, stories about xmas by the Freedom Shop and a personal zine about travels to Armenia. We'll also have 'Time For Plan B' - a 2019 planner based on events that are relevant to Aotearoa. Also there will be a lot of other stalls there with lots of zines and small-press creations.
